If you participate in the UC Retirement System (UCRS), and you probably do, you should have received an email regarding an E-Ballot. This is for an election for two staff representatives on the UCRS Advisory Board. For more information see http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/ucrs_election/. UPTE supports Paul Brooks and Monica Martinez.
The UC Board of Regents actually controls the $50 Billion or so retirement fund. The Advisory Board is just that: advisory. However, this is a foot in the door. Eventually we want to have a real say in what happens to our retirement money, but for now this is the best we can do. So, show UC that you are watching! Vote in this election. By the way, I urge you to vote for Paul Brooks and Monica Martinez. Paul is an UPTE activist in Berkeley (UPTE Local 1). Monica is an AFSCME activist in Los Angeles (AFSCME Local 3299). They are very knowledgeable in matters of pension and benefits.
